Nah. I use a lot of hyperbole. We're just told to "engage" all customers. There are certain things we're not supposed to discuss. I do however think it's basically an unspoken rule that you act like you're happy and having a good time.

Telling a customer I was just fantasizing about suicide would probably be frowned upon.

So true!!!! I can say...they don't make you say it, yet they do. Of course, when asked about something and I don't want to respond, I can make someone else answer it! Ignorance is bliss. Also it would be interesting to see someone to try working suicide into the conversation. However, getting fired would not be out of that equation.
